Vibrant emotive imagery will always enhance a buildings appeal and we have worked on the prestigious Old Trafford Stadium over the years with 2D and 3D graphics/sculptures and corporate suite identities, from the vibrant heart thumping passionate imagery of the themed video restaurant ‘red cafe’ through to the sumptuous elegance of the ‘treble suite’ with its spiralling sculpture that cascades down three floors of a structural pillar, and evokes the emotional season of 1999 when United won the dream ‘Treble’.
Recently we completed eleven corporate suites within the new quadrants and also the design and construction of the Munich Memorial extending the length of the South Stand Tunnel.
Each suite has its own identity and style depending on whether it is a sports bar, chefs table or fine dining area.
With the differences in quality of old and new photography it was decided that in some cases like the 100 and 500 clubs usage of black and white images with a hand coloured skin tone and red shirts would help keep all the sculpture pieces in keeping with each other.
Similarly when we were asked to produce imagery for the Captains Suite we had the same problem so overcame this with the use of a talented illustrator – Nick Reddyhoff – who has a really unique style which complimented the rooms styling.
As with all our project for whichever client we try and strive to bring new technology and finishes where applicable, this was certainly the case when producing the Centennial Corridor and Suites. We collaborated with our large format printers and printed direct to 1″ wood panels which were batoned to the corridor walls and when printed let the wood grain come through giving a very interesting and tactile feel to the whole area.
Using various substrates including etched wood and aluminium with key messages lasered into acrylic and all batoned off a printed background, mounted within a 6ft x 4ft aluminium frame and fitted snugly into a marble wall the eleven panels filled the whole of the south stand tunnel. With the most emmotive messages being cut from polished steel we tell the story of the birth of the babes through their early successes into europe, and then through the tragic crash that claimed the lives of so many.
“Before the tragedy at munich the club belonged to Manchester,
but afterwards Manchester United captured the imagination of the entire world.”
